I've been on the lookout for a this particular group for nearly a month and finally I'm sure that the same herd is back for the winter. At least fifteen went down to the river and grazed right by me before heading back up the cliffs. In one of their closest approaches yet, they again offered a spectacularly intimate view of their world. Read more
The boys were fired up at first light, but it was mostly just posturing, pent-up energy and what seemed like a bit of playfulness. The brief bout soon ended and the band of bachelors went on to grazing again in short order. Read more
The light was fading fast, but in the last few minutes of the day a glorious beam of sun perfectly lit the eastern sage brush. A bold, curious and mostly fearless colt raced over my direction before tiptoeing the final few hundred feet. From over a thousand to perhaps only five feet away, `Spike` seemed compelled to take a close look at me before the sunset concluded our encounter. Read more
